commoditization

A recent article in Chicago Lawyer discussed what has become an on-going concern about “commoditization”, that is, that many routine legal services have become, because of both the democratization of information and cost concerns, “fill-in-the-blank” law.

Most attorneys, especially at larger firms, fear commoditization; however, I see opportunity. Certain types of cases lend themselves to formal systems – by incorporating those systems into my legal product, I am able to deliver services quicker and cheaper than many of my contemporaries.

Legal services in toto may not be commoditizable, but to the extent systematizing my practices allow me to better serve you, it’s a good thing.
